Business Infusions is producing the Better Equine Vet Practice limited series podcast because we want to engage in conversations with equine veterinarians; to better understand their problems, and to connect an inspiring group of practitioners who can share their learnings and successes in practice innovation.

If your equine veterinary practice needs help with increasing efficiency and productivity, please contact us for a free demo and free consultation of HVMS software.

“HVMS practice management software emerged from a practice that had been operating for over 50 years. The practice owner identified a fundamental need to compensate their veterinarians more appropriately for professional services, and capture missed and lost billings. One of the mantras of our Chairman and Founder is that the further the vet walks away in time and space from the patient and the owner, the more they are going to give up in time and billable hours that are really valuable to them. With this type of approach, we’ve built a product that creates efficiency and productivity in the practice and still allows the flexibility to practice in different ways.”

Scott Pickard, CEO of Business Infusions, owners of HVMS software.

About the Guest

Dr. Olivia James
BVSc(hons) MANZCVSc(Eq Dentistry) DICEVO CMAVA

Olivia James graduated from the University of Sydney with honours in 2003. An interest in equine dentistry was sparked early in her career, she sat her ANZCVSc (Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists) membership examinations in Equine Dentistry in 2010, and in the same year and started a successful general equine practice “Brindabella Equine Veterinary Service”. She then went on to sit her Diplomate examinations with ICEVO (International College of Veterinary Odontologists) in Canada in 2013.

Dr. James is currently in the final examination stages of a seven year advanced standing Residency program for Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. At the completion of this program she will be the only registered and practicing specialist in equine dentistry in the Southern Hemisphere.

Dr. James consults on head and oral surgery of horses in Oceania and Asiawith Australian Veterinary Equine Dentistry Pty Ltd, performing referral dental surgeries and educating veterinarians in workshops, and lectures internationally in this subject.

Dr. James is the current President of the Dental Chapter of the ANZCVSc and has spent over a decade on various committees with the Australian Veterinary Association, at one time the President of the ACT Division. In December 2019 she launched The Veterinary Dental Company, providing online education in veterinary equine dentistry, the largest online venture worldwide on a single topic of veterinary medicine to date. This course was created for the avatar of herself as a new graduate and now has veterinarians enrolled from across the globe. A smaller version of the course was also offered at no charge to university students in 35 universities worldwide affected by social isolation due to covid-19, and is on track to be translated and promoted in Spanish and Portuguese by the end of 2020. Dr James believes that continuing education is rapidly transitioning to online delivery and is poised to deliver education to the often forgotten sector of the general equine practitioner through collaboration with colleagues and a passion for helping veterinarians and improving animal welfare.
